Monastery of the Holy Cross

After the discovery of a piece of cross, believed to have been brought to the area of Omodos in the early propagation of Christianity in Cyprus, a small chapel was built, which attracted the gathering of several monk. Over the years it has evolved into the spectacular monastery it is today. It is believed to have been built before 327 AD, as there are writings of St. Helen leaving artifacts at the monastery at that date. While Omodos was not a village at that time, it is said that the village grew around the findings of this monastery and is now a beautiful traditional village in the area of Limassol.
